HTTP 415 – Unsupported Media Type
The media format of the requested data is not supported by the server.
Common use case
Returned when a client sends a Content-Type the server can't parse, e.g. posting XML to an endpoint that only accepts application/json.
Example
HTTP/1.1 415 Unsupported Media Type
{"error":"Expected application/json"}History
Part of HTTP/1.1 (RFC 2068, 1997).
Did you know?
It is one of the most common causes of "works on my machine" API bugs - a missing or wrong Content-Type header on the client is usually the culprit.
