DNS Monitoring

A silently-wrong DNS record can misroute traffic for hours before anyone notices.

DNS issues are some of the quietest outages: a changed A record, a broken MX entry, or a resolution failure can misroute traffic or bounce mail without any obvious error on your site. Kawze monitors your domain's A/AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, and NS records and alerts you when they change unexpectedly or stop resolving.

How it works

  1. Add a domain monitor for the hostname you want to watch.
  2. Kawze resolves the A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, and NS records on a fixed schedule.
  3. Records are compared against expected state, and resolution failures are flagged immediately.
  4. Alerts fire on unexpected changes or a failure to resolve, so a bad registrar change or expired domain does not go unnoticed.

Why it matters

  • Catches misrouted traffic, broken mail delivery, and registrar-side mistakes early.
  • Detects domain resolution failures, which can be an early signal of an expiring or lapsed domain.
  • Runs alongside SSL checks on the same domain monitor.

Frequently asked questions

Which DNS record types does Kawze check?

A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, and NS records, plus overall resolution failures for the domain.

How is this different from a website monitor?

A website monitor checks HTTP responses from your app. DNS monitoring checks the domain's records directly at the DNS level, which can catch issues before they ever show up as an HTTP failure.

Can DNS monitoring detect DNS hijacking or an unauthorized record change?

Yes - records are compared against their expected state on every check, so an unexpected A, MX, or NS record change gets flagged whether it is a registrar mistake, a lapsed renewal, or a malicious hijack.

Will DNS monitoring tell me if my domain is about to expire?

Indirectly - a domain nearing expiry or already lapsed will typically fail to resolve, and Kawze alerts on resolution failures, giving you an early signal alongside your registrar's own renewal reminders.

This capability lives on Kawze's domain monitor - see that page for the full feature list and pricing for that uptime monitor type.
