HTTP 408 – Request Timeout
The server timed out waiting for the request from the client.
Common use case
Returned by servers that close idle connections, e.g. a slow or dropped mobile connection that never finished sending a request.
Example
HTTP/1.1 408 Request Timeout
Connection: close
History
Part of HTTP/1.1 (RFC 2068, 1997).
Did you know?
Some browsers will silently retry a request that gets a 408, since it usually indicates a transient network hiccup rather than a real error.
