HTTP 410 – Gone
The requested resource is permanently gone and will not be available again.
Common use case
Used instead of a plain 404 when a server wants to explicitly confirm a resource was deleted on purpose and won't come back, rather than possibly never having existed.
Example
HTTP/1.1 410 Gone
<html><body>This page has been removed</body></html>History
Part of HTTP/1.1 (RFC 2068, 1997).
Did you know?
Search engines treat 410 as a stronger deindexing signal than 404, since it explicitly confirms the removal was intentional and permanent.
