1. Overview

This Data Retention Policy explains how long Kawze keeps the data generated by our uptime monitoring service - including individual HTTP endpoint monitoring check logs and aggregated uptime summaries - and how retention periods vary by plan tier. It supplements our Privacy Policy and forms part of our Terms and Conditions.

2. Check log and uptime summary retention by tier

Every monitor you run generates two kinds of monitoring data: a detailed check log (the raw result of each individual HTTP endpoint monitoring request, including response time and status code) and an aggregated uptime summary (used for long-term uptime percentage reporting). Retention for both scales with your plan tier:

This table is generated directly from our tier configuration, so it always reflects what's actually enforced by our storage cleanup jobs. Check logs are stored in cold-tier storage, batched per monitor per day, to keep monitoring costs predictable while still giving you access to recent detailed results for troubleshooting. Once a check log or uptime summary passes its retention period for your tier, it is automatically and permanently deleted from our systems. If you downgrade your plan, data older than the new tier's retention period will be removed at the next scheduled cleanup.

3. Incident and alert history

Incident timeline entries (records of downtime start/end and associated alerts) are retained for as long as your account remains active, so you retain a historical record of incidents affecting your monitored endpoints, independent of the underlying check log retention period.

4. Account, billing, and status page data

  • Account data (login credentials, team members, monitor configuration) is retained for as long as your account is active.
  • Billing records are retained for the periods required under UK tax and accounting law, typically six years.
  • Status page subscriber data is retained until a subscriber unsubscribes or the related status page is deleted, at which point associated subscriber data is removed.
  • Backup copies of account and monitoring data are retained briefly and securely, and are not used to circumvent the retention periods set out above.

5. Deletion on account closure

When you close your Kawze account, we will delete your monitor configuration, check logs, uptime summaries, and alert contact data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records (such as billing records) for legal or regulatory reasons, in which case that residual data is isolated from further processing until it can lawfully be deleted.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update retention periods as our uptime monitoring infrastructure evolves. Material reductions in retention affecting existing plan tiers will be communicated to active customers in advance.
