HTTP 307 – Temporary Redirect
Like 302, but the method and body of the original request must be reused for the new request.
Common use case
Used when a temporary redirect needs to preserve a POST or PUT body exactly, such as redirecting an API client to a different regional endpoint.
Example
HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect
Location: https://eu.example.com/api/submit
History
Added in HTTP/1.1 (RFC 2616, 1999) to give developers an unambiguous alternative to 302's inconsistent method-preservation behaviour.
Did you know?
It exists mainly to fix a decades-old ambiguity: 302 technically should preserve the method too, but so many implementations changed it to GET that 307 had to be invented to guarantee correct behaviour.
