HTTP 302 – Found
The resource has been temporarily moved to a different URL. The original URL should still be used for future requests.
Common use case
Common for temporary redirects like maintenance pages, A/B test variants, or post-login landing pages where the canonical URL should remain unchanged.
Example
HTTP/1.1 302 Found
Location: /maintenance
History
Originally named "Moved Temporarily" in HTTP/1.0 (RFC 1945, 1996); renamed to "Found" in HTTP/1.1 (RFC 2068, 1997) to reduce confusion with 301.
Did you know?
Almost every browser historically changed a POST into a GET when following a 302, which was never what the spec intended - this quirk led directly to the creation of 307.
